As the saying goes, success is a series of small wins, and this couldn’t be truer when it comes to your daily habits as an entrepreneur.
In his best-selling book Change Your Habits, Change Your Life, Tim Corley analyses the behavior of 233 high-wealth individuals and self-made millionaires to establish what actions they take every day to be a success. He also compared the answers to responses from 128 poorer individuals, or those earning less than £35,000 a year.
We’ve looked at Corley’s findings, as well as additional studies, and compiled a list of daily habits of successful entrepreneurs that you can do to…
The early bird really does catch the worm. Ask any successful person what time they get up in the morning and chances are they’ll say before 7am. Ever heard of the 5am club? This is said to be the time that super-achievers wake up at to have a head start to the day before the rest of the world wakes up. It’s usually at this time that successful people can be found working out, meditating, reading or doing anything that sets their day off to a positive start – also known as the ‘power hour’ of the day.
With early mornings come early nights, and successful people are willing to sacrifice their social life or late night Netflix binges to get up early and get stuff done.
Successful people can focus on the task at hand and eliminate anything that distracts them from getting the job done. Even when things are chaotic, they find a way to be productive. They utilise every hour of the day and are always in work mode, even during weekends and holidays.
Health and fitness is an essential aspect of a successful persons’ daily life, and they understand that to succeed in business (and avoid burnout), they must maintain a healthy body and mind. Many successful people work out first thing in the morning before doing any work, while some squeeze it in between meetings or at the end of the day. Even if it’s just a short session, a daily workout is a priority.
To achieve their goals, successful people are constantly tracking them and taking the appropriate action needed on a daily basis to make sure they are always moving one step closer to them. Even if unexpected obstacles come their way, successful people never lose sight of their goals.
One of the main reasons successful people are wealthy is because they manage their money well. Yes, many of them take risks along the way, but when it comes to day-to-day spending, successful people tend to be less frivolous with money and instead spend it where it matters to grow their business. This means they’ll happily ditch a daily Starbucks if it means they’ll have more money in their business account.
While successful people work hard and put in the hours, they also know the importance of dedicating time each day for personal development and self-care. Whether it’s learning something new, reading something interesting, or spending quality time on their own or with loved ones, successful people know that to do well in business, they must also be happy in their personal life.
A positive mindset will get you far in life. Successful people are masters of managing their own mind, and when it comes to handling the many stressful obstacles that come your way in business, they know that keeping calm and staying positive will allow them to handle issues better.
Many of us are guilty of never getting to the end of our to-do-list and putting things off until tomorrow, but this is not the case for successful people. They do what they can, when they can, regardless of whether or not they feel like doing it, and strive to end every day by completing everything they set out to do.
Successful people strike while the iron is hot. If an opportunity comes their way, they seize it before the moment is gone. This isn’t always a good thing as spontaneity in business can be disastrous. However, when an opportunity comes along that is great for the business, successful people avoid hesitation and act fast.
Successful entrepreneurs function best when following a strict routine. Whether it’s a morning workout, a coffee at 9am sharp, meetings at a specific hour, or a set time for replying to emails – following a daily routine is vital for successful people, and many commit to their routine during the weekends and holidays too.
