The Cleaning Show, hosted at Excel in London, has reported an increase in attendees at its annual show with visitor figures exceeding 7,000, – a 26% increase on its previous show in 2017, according to the British Cleaning Council.

The number of foreign visitors also increased according to organisers who say that representatives from 45 different countries attended the 3-day expo.

Stan Atkins, Chair of the British Cleaning Council (BCC) which co-produces The Cleaning Show, said in a press release: “To experience growth in visitor numbers by over 25% is a remarkable achievement, especially in these economically challenging and politically uncertain times for our industry.

“The increased number of both international delegates and international exhibitors was also very encouraging, and the show is clearly now a truly global trade event attracting a high-quality audience from every corner of the world.”

According to the British Cleaning Council, around 700,000 people benefit from working in the cleaning sector which £24 billion to the UK economy.

The British Cleaning Council believes that the show’s international appeal was significantly boosted by the announcement of the first ever Window Cleaning World Cup – a competition which enjoyed extensive pre-show media coverage in cleaning trade magazines in Australia and New Zealand, the Middle East, Africa, Russia, the Far East, Scandinavia and other parts of Central and Eastern Europe.

The inaugural contest, which was sponsored by Unger, was won by Jeremiah Hickey, already the fastest window cleaner in the US. At Excel, he officially became the world champion with a time of 17.02 seconds and scooped a £1,000 cash prize plus a gleaming trophy.
